A quote from the village poet

SimonsideSituated in the centre of the attractive old market town of Rothbury, with its picturesque tree-lined main street, and its array of traditional pubs and restaurants, Simonside Apartment is perfectly placed within truly idyllic surroundings.

Rothbury is situated on the outskirts of the Northumberland National Park; the park covers 400 square miles (103,600 hectares) of wild Northumbrian countryside, the perfect place for walking, bird watching, cycling, or simply sitting in the car and enjoying the panoramic views.

The river Coquet runs right through the village and has a public pathway alongside which is perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll. You can even have a go at catching a wild trout or salmon during the fishing season.

CragsideThe local area has a multitude of attractions. Why not visit the nearby Cragside House and Estate? Cragside is famous for being the first home to be powered by hydro electricity. The house was built between 1864 and 1884 by Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public between March and November.

Further afield, there are medieval castles at Alnwick, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh and Chillingham. These are all open to the public, throughout the year, and are well worth a visit.

The CoastThe majority of castles in Northumberland are situated near the coast, which means, not only do you get to visit these fantastic historic buildings, but you also get to see the beautiful Northumberland coastline.

Northumberland has miles upon miles of golden sandy beaches, with the odd rocky one too! If the weather is nice, then a day on the coast is a must; it's roughly a thirty minute drive, but it is well worth it. Alnmouth, Warkworth, Embleton and Bamburgh beaches are amongst Northumberland's finest.

The QuaysideIf you miss the hustle and bustle of the city, or like to shop on a grander scale, then head south towards the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Newcastle offers some fantastic and varied restaurants, shops, and is renowned for its lively nightlife. Other attractions include: the Baltic art gallery, the Millennium Bridge and the famous Quayside.

During your stay at Simonside Apartment, you can do as much or as little as you want. We are more than happy to give you further advice on local attractions and things to do during your stay - don't hesitate to ask.
